New Release & My Review- #MomFail

Cover Design: MadHat Books

Release Date: July 25, 2017

Synopsis

Everyone just stop for one bleeping minute so we can all get real with each other. Being a mom is some tough $#!†. You’re constantly wearing questionable substances that make you ask, “is this chocolate or … oh, crap …” and your purse is merely a receptacle for three-week-old snacks and broken crayons.

Let’s be honest … even when we’re doing this “mom” thing right, we’re somehow doing it completely wrong.

Pardon us while we dust off our collective Mother of the Year trophy and proudly present you with an epic anthology of #MOMFAILS.

*Stories inspired by real life (unless you’re a cop, then it’s all complete fiction). Names and situations have been changed to protect the guilty (and by guilty, we mean the moms). Because motherhood is a battlefield and we’re all just trying to survive by any means necessary.

Featuring this amazing lineup: Alissa York, A.M. Willard, BL Berry, Carina Adams, Claudia Burgoa, Crystal Burnette, Dylan Allen, Faith Andrews, Gia Riley, J.A. DeRouen, Kate Anslinger, Leddy Harper, LK Collins, LL Collins, Marie James, Piper Rayne, Riann C. Miller, Shari J. Ryan, Stephanie Rose, Stephie Walls, SM West, TL Swan, Teresa Michaels, and foreword written by: Nicole Kane Knepper.

My Review

This collection of short mom stories had me laughing out loud on so many occasions. Each story has a unique twist on the many ways we as moms make mistakes that we can only hope will not scar our children for life. I found myself saying “I’ve been there” while reading a few of the stories, on the other hand some stories, I just prayed would never happen to me.
I loved this book. the stories were the perfect length to read in the car while waiting on your kid to come out of dance, gymnastics, piano lessons, or even while hiding in the bathroom looking for just one moment of peace.
I’ve read other works by quite a few authors in the anthology, but many were new to me. I will most definitely be looking for more from the new-to-me authors.

TOBY
Spending the entire summer with my father wasn’t in my plans. I hated him. I was angry and resentful, and it made me feel out of control.
Until I met her.
Casey is carefree. She lives life to the fullest, without regrets, and to a guy like me, she was hope. We only had the summer, and I knew better than to get wrapped up with her, but I couldn’t help it.
And now? Now, I don’t know how to let her go.
CASEY
I’d never been in love. At fifteen, my life was filled with books and family expectations. Love was not something I had time for.
And then, he saved me.
Toby is a boy from California, so you would think he’d be easy going, but he isn’t. He’s the definition of self-control; everything has to be “just so.” But when we’re together, living each day with reckless abandon, I realize that life is so much more than fairytales within the pages.
I’m pretty sure he’s my soulmate. But what good can possibly come from falling so hard when you’re this young? How can this ever work?
A promise. That’s all we have to hold on to. One. Simple. Promise.
***This novel contains adult/mature young adult situations. It is only suitable for ages 18+ due to language and sexual situations.

My Review

J. Lum knocked it out of the park with this debut novel. She hit all the feels with this one. I connected with Tobias “Toby” and Casey right away.
The story was compelling, and I found myself completely enthralled with how the characters developed.
Don’t let the YA genre of this book fool you into believing that there is no depth to the emotions in their story. I felt every emotion that they were feeling, frustration, loneliness, longing, confusion and heartbreak.
The story ends with a “to be continued” and I cannot wait to see where Ms. Lum will take us in the next phase of their lives.

Excerpt

Tobias
Te odio!” I hate you. The burning rage builds up inside as I am forced to converse with this family that isn’t my own.
“Tobias, I told you to speak English in the house! You will respect my rules while you are here. Do you understand me? Your mother and siblings don’t understand you!” My father is gesticulating wildly with his fist raised. I take a few steps back, my own fists clenched as I try everything to control my anger. But I can’t get my temper under control and my face is burning hot. How dare he imply Debi’s anything but my stepmother? She’s not my mother, and Molly and Jamie are not my siblings. I don’t have a brother and sister …

I glance over my father’s shoulder at them, pretending they aren’t listening in on yet another argument my father and I are having. Molly is tucked in and sitting on Debi’s lap, sucking her thumb with a sleepy look on her face while Jamie’s blue-green eyes are marked in concern. His bowl of chocolate cereal lay untouched and soggy.
We had just started screaming at each other when they walked into the kitchen, bright and early, their hair in disarray. I felt sorry about waking them up, especially Jamie, who is at the same age as I was when my father walked out. He’s not stupid; he knows something is wrong and that look on his face, the concern—I put that there. He usually looks at me like I hung the moon. The older brother he always wanted. We both carry the deep-rooted Spanish looks. While my eyes are deep brown, both Jamie and Molly’s are blue like their mother’s and hair jet-black, like our father’s.
Since coming here, almost every conversation ends up like this, and today is no different. My father set me off this morning when he tried to have a “normal” conversation with me about what I had been up to. As if he really cares about my life. Where has he been the last eleven years? Not in our home, and certainly not with me. No, he was with them, being their doting father. With my teeth and fists clenched, I stare up at my father.
No me importa. No son mi familia …” Taking long breaths, I pause. “You left us! I don’t want to be here, just as much as you don’t want…” My eyes burn from the impending tears, and I blink hard. No, no, no. I won’t cry. He doesn’t deserve any of my feelings beyond anger. I have to get out of his house. I’m suffocating here. I try to run past him, but his strong hands grab hold of my mine, as if to anchor me in place.
“Tobias, don’t … Please, look at me.” I turn away from him and shake my head as he squeezes my hand. “Tobias, perdóname. Lo siento. I’m sorry.”
I yank my hands free from his grasp as soon as his last ‘sorry’ leaves his lips. I can’t stand to be in this house another second. I can’t hear him apologize for leaving me—leaving us—to find a new and better family. I take long strides towards the door and, without looking back at him, I swing it open and it bangs into the wall. I shake my head. “No significas nada para mi.” I pause, before repeating my words in English so they all can understand me. “You mean nothing to me. I won’t ever forgive you.” Then I slam the door shut, running quickly off the porch and down the path towards the beach. The hairs on my arms stand up as my feet beat hard against the ground. The air is crisp and breezy, but I don’t care. I need it to be cold as I burn off the anger I can still feel churning inside me. Being this close to him makes me lose all control, and I never do that. His needling questions this morning, asking how my life is. Well, fuck him, he doesn’t get that luxury. Who gives him the goddamn right to try and establish any relationship with me? I saw his agitation with my one-word answers. It was like poking the bear, and part of me enjoyed watching him struggle to gain some sort of ground with me.
What tipped this particular conversation was when he brought up my mother. For a split second it had sounded like he truly cared, but then I remembered, he can’t care about her or me. Maybe he feels guilty for being absent all these years, but he can’t crawl his way back into my life and expect me to bend to his demands just because we share the same DNA. I pick up my pace, allowing the slight sting in my feet to distract me from everything that just happened. To give me time to work my way through my anger. From a distance, I can hear my name across the wind. I know it must be my father shouting after me, but I ignore him. I refuse to let him do this to me. Not again.
At the end of the day, deceit masked in remorse is all I see when I hear his apologies. He walked away from us and never looked back. I don’t owe him anything. And he doesn’t deserve my forgiveness. I run faster, wishing for the memories to fade. All I remember was my mom’s endless tears as she begged my father not to walk out. I was thrust into immediate adulthood when he left, and I tried to pick up the pieces. It took my mom years to get over him walking away, which is why I was surprised she forced me to come here to visit. I didn’t even get a choice; she sprung this “bonding time,” as she liked to call it, on me last minute. I had been looking forward to spending the summer with my cousins, and my aunt and uncle, but now I had to see him. I love my mom, though. Despite her bouts with depression, she has always been the one constant in my life. I saw the hurt in her eyes when I yelled at her in the airport. I could barely look at her before she sent me on the plane.
“Why are you making me do this? Lo odio! I hate him, Mama. Please, I don’t want to go there. You have no right to make me go! I just … I can’t leave you by yourself.” I knew saying that would hurt her feelings, a small reminder of me as her constant shadow. Always ensuring she was safe, that she was going to be okay.
Toby, please. I know you are angry at me. But, he’s your father. He loves you. Bebé, cometí un error. My anger shouldn’t have kept you separated from a father who loves you. I was the parent, and I let that responsibility fall by the wayside. I let you carry that burden I see you carrying with you, always. You deserved a life—a childhood, and I took that away from you. It was my mistake, mijo, not your father’s. You were too young to understand at the time. Yo era egoísta. Stop holding onto that anger I put there. Mijo, I love you. You need this summer together … you both do. It’s for the best. Just, please remember, I love you. Always.

I watched the tears stream down her face as I told her how much I hated her. I was such a dick. I didn’t mean to say the words; I just couldn’t understand why my mom was doing this. Why she was making excuses for him. Of all the people in the world, why him? I never walk away angry from her, ever. It was a promise I made her years ago. And I broke it.

Things haven’t gotten any better. I’ve been here a week, and I’ve been ignoring her calls. She’s left a few messages and I can hear how hurt she sounds in every single one. Mom sounded really tired on the last message, though. I do need to talk to her, but I’m still so pissed. I don’t want to shout at her again, and I know I will once I get on the phone. I had hoped a few days of cooling off would’ve helped, but the constant fighting with my father has set me off to the point I’m always hot. I know my only reprieve is the beach, which is why I’ve come this way. The wind blows harder as I move faster. Sand kicks up all around me. It’s still early, and I know the sun will soon be peeking above the horizon. I want to make sure I can watch the sun as it rises above the waves.

About the Author

Author J. Lum was born and raised in Northern Virginia, but spent most summers visiting new places or in Hawaii, where her father’s family is from. She’s got a bad case of #Wanderlust, so you’ll more than likely find her traveling more than staying put. She is a furbaby mom to a fat, chubby pug named Lani, who is buckets of snoring fun. When you don’t see her hanging and snuggling with her pug, she will more than likely have her head in a book. She absolutely adores second chance and dark romances equally, but will read a wide variety of books. She loves tats, cooking/baking, chocolate and coffee are weaknesses for her.

Business of Sex Series
A.M. Willard
Romantic Comedy

Blurb:

I’m no longer the girl who blushes at a drop of a hat or from the sight of a novelty toy. No, I’m bold and brazen, the one who stands up and takes what she wants. Well, until it backfires on me and the plan is no longer in my favor… Or is it?

Cooper has a way with words, a way with my heart, and not to mention my body. I shouldn’t have been surprised when he tricked me, or should I say made the front-page of the newspaper with an anonymous announcement that even has me at loss for words.

Don’t worry, I still sell toys and I might still have the guy of my dreams. It’s just all happening backward for us. I’ve learned along this journey that life is full of surprises and you have to roll with the punches. And boy if this surprise just isn’t one that has left me in shock and awe. But I’m Charlie… nothing will hold me back from what—or who—I want. Mixing business with pleasure may not be suggested, but I’ve learned to take risks…

 My Review

I was looking forward too the conclusion of this series, because I enjoyed the first two volumes. I have to be honest, this one left me a little disappointed.

While I loved that Charlie and Cooper finally got their HEA, (She of all people deserved one) I was disappointed with some of the twists in this volume. It felt to me that they were there more to add drama than to aid in the development of their relationship.

There were some funny moments, and some sexy times, and AM Willard did wrap the series up nicely.

Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: June 16, 2017
Cover Designer: Pink Ink Designs

Cleo Hill is a married woman, in love with a man she’s never really known—her husband, whom she hasn’t seen in eleven years.

Paxton “Torch” Hill is a Notorious Devil, a man who’s been wrestling with his personal demons since before he knew the horrors of war.

When a threat against his club means danger could be lurking around his estranged wife’s door, Paxton is determined to protect her. Yet, one look at the woman he left behind, and he knows his plans are about to change.

The past is not an easy thing to forget, especially not for a woman scorned. While Cleo isn’t the innocent catch he once knew, there’s something about that rough and ready man she’s not sure she can deny.

After all—they promised each other forever.

*Recommended for readers 18+ due to Language, Sexual Content, and Violence
review
Rough and Ready is the 5th book in the Notorious Devils series. We first met Paxton “Torch” Hill in book one. There was just something about him. I have wanted his story from that first book. Let me tell you this one was worth the wait!
His back story was one that was tragic, he always did what he had to do to take care of those around him, even if it meant protecting them from himself. He has lived through, seen, and done things that most people would not have survived. Pax has done a lot of growing and now he is ready. Ready to protect the only person who has shown him unconditional love. Ready to put his past behind him. Ready to claim the life that has been waiting for him for the last eighteen years.
Chloe Hill has been alone for the last eighteen years. She has learned how to live her life and has become stronger. When her past comes back she is strong enough to not let it hurt her again, but also strong enough to go after what she has wanted for a long time.
I am totally hooked on this series. I love these Devils. They are rough, and raw, and ruthless, but when it comes to the women who have their hearts, they are all in, and will do anything to protect them and to show their love in their own way.
I cannot wait for the next Notorious Devil!

32 years young… born and raised in California, did a stint in Oregon only to return to the Golden State. Lived that life a while until the Lone Star State called to us, Hill Country, Texas is where we call home, where our boots rest and loving that country life. Living the life with one bearded power pole climbing husband, two little boys that are full of energy and drive us crazy plus a chocolate lab named Optimus Prime.

My Review

We first met Ashley and Corrie in Background Noise, that was a short story, released as a part of an anthology for charity. I fell hard for this hot rocker with a smooth southern charm. He never got caught up in the “fast money and even faster women” world that usually follows this lifestyle. He has a heart of gold and wants to share it with Corrie, the strong woman who he happened to meet by chance, and fell for immediately.
Backwoods Belle is is their love story. How their relationship progresses from a chance meeting with a strong attraction to a lasting love that will stand the test of time.
I loved every last word of this book. It was sweet and sexy. There was a depth to their relationship that started on page one and progressed throughout the entire book. I loved the fact that there wasn’t the usual push/pull, the will they or won’t they. It was plain and simple a falling in love story with an amazing happily ever after.
After reading this book I can say that Ashley Hicks has taken a very close second to my number one rock star Sage McCoy who just so happens to come from the creative genius of RC Martin, and makes a cameo appearance in Backwoods Belle. (If you haven’t checked out Mountains & Men, give it a try). I hope we get updates into the fairy-tale lives of Ashley and Corrie in future books!

Excerpt
Ashley
“Simon, I understand that. But Ashley—”
I look up from where I’m standing, behind the kitchen
island, and focus my attention on Corie. That’s the second time Simon has
cut her off in a span of three minutes, and it’s starting to piss me
off.
“I’m aware that time is money,” she says, her phone tucked
between her ear and her shoulder as she sprays down the window
I took her against a couple of hours ago.
I’m not the least bit surprised that she’s busying herself with the task. She cleans when she’s anxious. I haven’t been able to get her to break the habit, even though I’ve got a cleaning crew that drops by a couple times a week to take care of stuff like that. She’s also really self-conscious about leaving behind evidence of our love making.
Soiled sheets are one thing—the oil from her skin smeared across the living room window? I’m impressed it lasted this long.
A smirk curls the side of my mouth as I watch her bend down, giving me a nice view of her pretty, round ass in those tight blue jeans before she straightens, shaking her shoulder-length, wavy brown locks out of her face. She tugs a few paper towels from the roll she’s got in her hand, pausing all movement as she listens to the man on the other side of her call.
“Simon—three days. I’m asking you to push the interview three days. The article isn’t even set to print until—”
He cuts her off again, and she huffs out a sigh, rubbing at the window vigorously. No longer capable of keeping my distance, I abandon our half-made sandwiches, rounding the island as I stomp into the next room. Corie’s wadding up the used paper towels in her hand as I approach, and she turns to look up at me when I stop just beside her. Our gazes lock, and my chest swells when her eyes soften. Then I hold out my hand, signaling that I’d like her to hand over her device. She scowls at me, simultaneously shaking her head.
“Darlin’, let me talk to him,” I insist.
She pulls in a deep breath and shakes her head again before she speaks. “You know that I wouldn’t be asking this if it wasn’t a request that came from Ashley, right? We’re both fully aware that the tour is less than six months away. I’m also not ignorant of the fact that publicity is important—but I’m just asking for—”
When he cuts her off again, her face falling in frustration, I reach for her phone without permission, knowing good and well that she’s too small to best me. Quickly bringing the device to my ear, I mutter a greeting to my publicist of a year and a
half.“Simon—is there a problem?”
“Oh, hey, Ashley,” he greets in reply, his tone light and jovial.
I furrow my brow, verbally expressing my confusion as I ask, “What are you doing, man?”
“Just giving her a hard time, throwing off her scent.” I free a sigh, regretting ever having told him that I was even thinking about proposing.
“That’s not necessary.”
“Really? I thought for sure, when she asked me to move GQ, that meant this weekend was—”
“Yeah, it is. Doesn’t mean you need to talk to her like
that.”
“Ah, come on. You know I’m just playing along.”
In truth, Simon is not only great at what he does, he’s also a pretty good guy. He’s been a part of the music industry longer than I have, which means he’s been around for decades. At forty-three years old, he brings a good deal of experience to the table that a guy like me can benefit from.
On the flip side, he has a bit of a reputation. He can be a real hard-ass. No doubt, it’s worked in my favor before; but seeing as how he’s talking to my woman, he needs to learn she’s not to be on the receiving end of his ire—whether he’s kidding or not.
“Simon,” I clip, shifting my gaze out the window.
“All right, all right. I’m backing down.”
I nod, happy to have gotten my point across. “Can you move the meetin’?”
“Yeah. I’m on it. No big deal.”
“Right,” I scoff, shaking my head at him—regardless of the fact that he can’t see me doing it.
“So this is it? You’re really going to go through with it?”
I look back at Corie and find her staring at me, her eyes bouncing as she studies me anxiously. Thinking about spending the rest of my life with her brings a smile to my face I don’t even try to hide. She arches an eyebrow at me, as if silently asking me what Simon’s saying, but I ignore her. Instead, I reach up and slip my fingers around the side of her neck, then up to her nape, where I bury my fingers in her hair and gently pull her closer to me. She comes willingly, the roll of towels still tucked under her arm, and the wad of used ones held tightly in her fist.
“Yup,” I tell Simon before pressing a soft kiss to Corie’s forehead.
“If you’re sure, then I’m happy for you. Nobody deserves to get the girl more than you, Ashley.”
“I’m sure. So, cool it, would you?”
“Put her back on. I promise to be nice.”
“Here she is.”
When I pull the phone away from my ear and press it against hers, I then gently tilt her head to the side, so she’s got it tucked back between her ear and her shoulder. I let go of her neck when she starts speaking, but I don’t get the chance to back away from her before she’s gripping a fistful of my shirt.
“Okay. Thank you. I’ll watch for your text,” she tells Simon. “Bye.”
Finished with her call, she lets go of my shirt to take hold of her phone before she says, “Ashley, you can’t keep doing that.”
“Doing what?” I ask, feigning innocence with a shrug.
“You know what,” she murmurs, her lips turning down in a slight frown. “There are going to be times when some of the people you work with aren’t going to like what I have to say. Case in point,” she tells me, lifting her phone to emphasize what she’s saying. “You can’t keep rescuing me. I have to be able to handle these things on my own.”
“Not sayin’ you’re wrong, Corie, but if I’m around when someone’s talkin’ to my woman the way he was just talkin’ to you, I’m gonna butt in. It’s about respect, sugar. He knows better.”
I watch as she fights a smile, stepping closer to me before she says, “And I get that, but I had that handled.”
“Sweetheart, now you listen here,” I pause, leaning down until my forehead is almost touching hers.
“Somethings you don’t need to handle—and seein’ as I’m your man and your boss, I think it’s fair to say that I’ve got the right to determine what I deem appropriate. You hear?”
She purses her lips together, fighting another smile before she places a hand against my chest, pushing herself up on her tiptoes in order to touch her head to mine. “I love you, Ashley Hicks.”
“I love you, too, darlin’.”
I watch as she closes her eyes and draws in a deep breath before she settles back down on the soles of her feet and gives me a gentle shove. “Get out of here before I kiss you. I have one more call to make and then your schedule is clear.”
“Al’right,” I reply with a chuckle, backing my way out of the room. “Lunch will be ready in a few.”
“I won’t be long.”
She turns away from me, headed for the sofa. On my return trip to the kitchen, I look over my shoulder and see that she’s replaced the paper towels in her hand with her tablet.
Seeing her work fills me with a double ounce of pride. Selfishly, I’m glad that I was right—glad to see her doing so well in her position. She’s thriving, and it’s so damn gorgeous to witness. But I’m also just proud of her. She’s determined, smart, and ambitious. Not once has she tried to ride on my coattails, or use our relationship to justify a lack of effort on her part. She works hard, and I’m lucky to have her.
Leaving her to do her thing, I think back on my short exchange with Simon.
There’s not a single doubt in my mind that she’s the one, and nothing is going to stop me from dropping down to one knee tonight to make that truth crystal clear.

“I never thought I could want anyone as much as I wanted Nash, then I met you”~Royal

When I was sixteen I was afflicted with a terrible curse…I fell in love with my straight best friend. I never thought I’d move past my feelings for Nash and find someone who could love me in return, until the day a gorgeous marine plopped himself down in my chair and asked me to ink him. I’m falling fast for Zade, but my feelings for Nash are still very real. When life starts getting complicated and Nash speaks the words I never thought I’d hear, the only thing I want is for us to find a way to make this work…together.

“What if I told you, you’d never have to choose?”~Zade

I thought I’d stay in the marines for life, that was the plan. But after a traumatic event I couldn’t make myself re-enlist when my contract was up. Confused and unsure what to do next I called up my best friend for a place to stay. What I didn’t count on was my best friend’s boyfriend practically throwing a sexy tattoo artist at me to keep me busy. Royal is everything I’ve ever wanted and his roommate, Nash, is starting to grow on me, too.

“A few weeks ago I thought I was straight. Now I’m sandwiched between two sweaty men. Can’t say I do anything half-assed.” ~Nash

Of course I’ve noticed that my best friend, Royal is crazy good looking. I have eyes, that doesn’t mean I’m into guys. Although, when I start to notice that his new boyfriend, Zade, is pretty hot too, that makes me start to question things a little. Not to mention the dreams I keep having of the three of us together. I’m willing to try if they are.

**This is NOT a love triangle, just good old fashioned man-on-man-on-man love

**Every book in the Heathens Ink series can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s way more fun to read them in order.

Review

One steamy read!!

Seriously… grab a cold drink before diving into Going Commando! You will thank me later.

Take one hot former marine, add in one super sexy tattoo artist, and don’t forget the unattainable best friend. What do you have? One steamy read.

This m/m/m ménage book has it all. Sexy guys who enjoy each other, longing, self discovery, deep and meaningful love, and a few surprises thrown in just for fun.

Going Commando is the second installment of the Heathen’s Ink series. We met Royal, Nash and Zade in book one and I couldn’t wait to see where their story was going to take us. Ms. Neuhold had me hooked from the beginning of the series, giving just enough of a teaser of stories to come. Now I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you KM Neuhold for introducing me to a new genre of romance novels, and your amazing characters!

EXCERPT

His cheeks flame red and that’s all the answer I need. I lunge at him, claiming his lips with my own, savoring the sweet taste. Sure, I’ve sucked his dick a few times, but I’ve never been allowed to kiss him before. To my relief he relaxes into the kiss, his lips parting, and his hands fisting the front of my shirt.

Nash let’s out a whimper as I flick my tongue along his bottom lip before plunging it into his mouth. To my surprise he sucks my tongue and then grabs me by the hair, tilts my head back, and deepens the kiss.  Holy fuck this boy can kiss. I moan into his mouth, as his hands begin to fumble with my jeans.

“Wait,” I gasp reluctantly as my brain chooses a few seconds too late to remind me that not only do I have a boyfriend, he’s in a sex coma in the next room while I suck my roommate’s face off. “Fuck, I shouldn’t have done that.”

Nash frowns and touches his fingers to his lips, like he’s trying to hang on to the sensation of the kiss. Another jolt of lust hits me in the gut.

“I’m going to go to bed and we’ll finish talking about this in the morning, okay?”

Nash nods but doesn’t say anything as I dart for my room before I can do any other stupid shit.

Zade is still sound asleep, but as I pull the covers back and climb in beside him, he rolls towards me and wraps me in his arms.

My heart constricts. If you’d have told me two months ago that Nash might be bi and have feelings for me, I’d have been jumping for joy. Part of me still is. I mean, fuck, I’ve loved the man for eight years. He’s everything I thought I always wanted.

Laying here in Zade’s arms, it’s not as easy as it should be to be excited about Nash. I haven’t known Zade long, but my feelings for him are just as real as my feelings for Nash. I can’t choose between them, it would be impossible. They’re so different, but both exactly what I need.

Zade is strong and fierce, but needs me to soothe something deep inside of him. He’s sarcastic and up for anything. I never thought I’d meet a man who’d be willing to face down any challenge I could throw at him, and level me with challenges of his own.

Then there’s Nash. He’s my best friend, my hero, the man who’s held my heart since I was sixteen. Nash is kind and quiet. He calms the chaos I love to create. He levels me out. And, he needs me too.

I want them both in every possible way. I’ll never be able to choose.

New Release & My Review- Detour by Kacey Shea

Title: Detour
Series: Off Track Records #1
Author: Kacey Shea
Cover Design & Photography: Marisa Shor, Cover Me Darling
Cover Model: Haley Loan
Release Date: June 1, 2017
Trent Donavan is the golden boy of the rock world. As lead singer of Three Ugly Guys, he’s every fangirl’s dream, and with his newfound fame the women flow as readily as alcohol and drugs. There’s no doubt women are Trent’s preferred indulgence after a successful show.
That is, until the feisty little blonde joins the tour.
Lexi Marx loves music. It runs in her blood and flows through her soul. As the illegitimate daughter of a rock legend, she’s determined to make it in the music industry on talent alone. So when her agent scores her the opening act gig for the next 3UG tour it seems her hard work, hopes, and dreams have finally come to fruition.
Until she spends time with the band. More accurately, Trent Donovan. She’d feel better if that arrogant manwhore of a lead singer would stop hitting on her with his dreamy eyes, witty comebacks, and voice that melts the most jagged of hearts.

But Trent is determined to prove to Lexi he’s not such a bad guy, and as music binds their friendship, Lexi’s left with the most confusing of emotions. Could this be love or an uninvited distraction? She can still have it all, if only her heart doesn’t lead her off track.

Enjoy this excerpt from lead singer of Three Ugly Guys, Trent Donavan from Kacey Shea’s rock star romance, Detour:
The dive is actually charming inside, with its retro fifties décor and twenty-four-seven breakfast menu. The crowd is popping for a weekday lunch, and with its location in the heart of downtown I take that as a sign the food will be good.
A no-nonsense waitress leads us to an empty booth near the back.
“This okay?” Her tone dares us to suggest it’s not . . . and end up with spit in our meal.
“Perfect. Thanks.” Lexi slides into the seat across from me. The waitress points to where the menus are nestled between the table and a dish of creamer, sugar packs, and other condiments.
“What can I get you to drink?”
“I’ll have a glass of orange juice,” Lexi says and then glances at me. “And I don’t need to see the menu. I’m ready to order. If you are?”
“Yeah.” I’m surprised, since most people scan the menu before deciding on their meal.
“A stack of plain pancakes. Please,” she says.
“You want the half or the full?” our server asks without looking up from her notepad.
“Full, please.” Lexi smiles.
The waitress pauses to glance at Lexi and raise her brows. “Mmm’kay. And for you?” She nods my direction more than asks.
“Same. Except coffee for me.”
“’Kay.” She turns and leaves without a backward glance.
“I don’t know how you do that,” I say.
“What? I can eat a lot of food. Especially pancakes. Don’t judge me by my size.”
I grin. “Not that. I’m talking about ordering orange juice.”
“You don’t like OJ?” she asks as if I’m the crazy one.
“I do. But you have no idea the pulp situation. Does it have none, or extra? How can you order a glass without knowing the level of pulp?”
She laughs and at that moment our server comes back to set down our drinks. “Pancakes’ll be up shortly.”
“I take it you’re not a fan of pulp.” Lexi observes and takes a sip from her drink.
I eye her from over the brim of my mug. “That obvious?”
She laughs and sets down her glass. “You’ll be happy to know there’s a low pulp situation going on. We’re safe here.”
“Thank God!” I bug my eyes and delight in the way her lips lift in a comfortable smile. Not forced or guarded. I like this Lexi. “Hey, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you since we met.”
Her shoulders straighten just the slightest and I can’t help but kick myself for chasing away some of her ease. “You don’t have to answer, if you don’t want. Just call me curious.”
“Fine.” She rolls her eyes but her lips twitch up with the trace of a smile. “Shoot.”
“Why Marx?” The words leave my mouth and I instantly regret the question.
Her eyes drop and her jaw hardens with her frown. She studies the patterned Formica table and traces her fingertips along the silver plated fork and spoon atop her paper napkin. Fuck. She was just starting to open up. Talk to me. Now she’s like ice. I should apologize. Or make a joke. An inappropriate one about her luscious breasts. Yes, then she’ll get angry. Angry I can do.
“Don’t laugh,” she warns.
My gaze snaps up to watch her still playing with the silverware. “Okay.”
“Swear it.”
I reach my hand across the table and set my fingers next to the napkin. “Pinky promise.” I wiggle my finger and her lips soften as though she wants to smile. “I won’t tell a soul.”
Her pinky slides along mine, and the soft brush of her tiny finger against my much bigger one kicks up my pulse. Her hands are so delicate and skilled, and fuck if my dick isn’t already making my tight jeans irritably uncomfortable. She squeezes her finger and I barely lock mine with hers before she pulls her hands back into her lap.
“I was a child. I can’t be held responsible.” She glances around the room before her gaze settles back to me. “But I had a major crush on Richard Marx.”
“The singer?” I press my lips together because I’m certain there’s a smile stretching across my face.
Lexi’s glare confirms my suspicion. “Not a word. You promised.”
“I won’t. It’s cute. What were you, like five?”
“More like twelve.”
“But you’re only twenty-three, right? Wasn’t Marx big in the late eighties, early nineties?”
“Yeah, well, my mom loved his music so we listened to it a lot.”
“You’re telling me your stage name is a shout out to the guy who romanced millions of women with his piano and soft rock ballads, all from a little childhood crush?”
“Don’t judge, okay. I was a kid.” Even she can’t hold back a laugh.
“Not judging, just finding the connection rather shallow for a woman who does everything with great meaning.”
Her eyes narrow. “I’m not sure if you’re trying to compliment or insult me.”
I wink. “Compliment. Go with the positive.”
“You’re delusional.” She throws up her hands.
“Says the Marx diehard fan!”
“Look. It’s more than that,” she grumbles and when I tilt my head she shakes hers, her next words leaving her lips in a rush. “God, I can’t believe I’m telling you this . . . When I was a young girl I had this ridiculously famous rock star dad. One who was a horrible father. One who never remembered to call or visit, and who made my mom cry herself to sleep. One who made her waste her entire youth devoted to a man who didn’t give two shits about us.
When I listened to “Right Here Waiting,” I used to pretend that my dad wasn’t Richie Sands. That my mom had gotten it all wrong. I imagined my father was Richard Marx and he was singing that song to us—my mom and me. That he loved us.” She gave a short pause. “So as soon as I turned eighteen, I legally changed my last name to Marx.”
“Two big stacks.” Our server interrupts by setting down our plates with a clatter. “Refills?”
“Yes, please,” Lexi answers. However, I can’t seem to move my gaze from her eyes. The green shines a little too brightly under the florescent lights while she pours way too much syrup on her pancakes. She continues with her meal as if she hadn’t just shared something completely intimate and personal.
“Syrup?” Lexi holds the jug over my stack and I quickly grab it from her hands.
“I’ve got it, Sugar Tits! You’ll give me diabetes if I let you pour.”
“What? I like syrup with my pancakes!”
“I can see that.” I grin and douse my stack with a conservative amount before cutting a few bites with the side of my fork. “So, when you’re not basking in pancake griddle heaven, what other food do you enjoy this much?”
“Chinese, Thai, Sushi. I love them all. But there’s nothing like a stack of pancakes.” Lexi shovels in another mouthful. A groan of pleasure escapes from where her lips lock around the fork. Fork me. What I wouldn’t give to be a piece of cutlery.
“And don’t think I didn’t notice the sugar tits comment, either. That nickname ends here.” She points the fork in my direction before taking another bite.
My lips pull up with a big ass grin. “I don’t know . . . ’Cause that I didn’t promise.” I pop in a mouthful of pancakes.
She shakes her head, rolls those eyes, and takes a sip of juice. “Hey, Trent.” She glances down at her plate, using her fork to push around the sopping mess she’s made of a perfectly delicious breakfast.
“Yeah?”
“I never said thank you.” She lifts her gaze and those eyes pierce me with their sincerity. “Thank you.”
I lick my lips and take a big gulp of coffee. “You’re welcome. For what exactly?”
She smiles and taps her fork against the plate. “Why did you bring me on your bus in Oklahoma?”
That night fills me with sadness and I rub my hands through my hair. “To keep you safe.”
“That’s it? No ulterior motives?”
“Lexi, that night, I . . . There was no way I was letting you sleep in Big Betty. Not after what happened. What could have happened. No. I just needed to keep you safe. The best way to do that was in our bus. Simple.”
She scoops up her drenched pancake and brings it to her lips. Oh, those damn lips. “Well, then, thank you,” she whispers before the food goes inside her mouth and she does the groan again.
It’s all I can do to not pounce over the table, claim those lips, and join her in the sound.
“And thanks for not trying to get in my pants.” She grins, wider now, and I feel as though she’s playing some kind of mindfuck game. She’s gotta be on to me, inside my head, knowing I’ve been thinking unprofessional thoughts throughout this entire breakfast.
“Who says I’m not trying to do that?” I go with humor, always my best defense, and it works when she laughs aloud.
“You’re such a manwhore.”
“You got me.” I join in her laugher and pray my little obsession with her mouth dissipates the further into this tour we go. Lexi is a cool chick, more down to earth than I ever imagined, and she deserves the best. More than I could ever give, that much is true.

 review
I’m a total sucker for a hot rocker with a heart of gold.
I wasn’t so sure Trent had that, with his manwhorish ways, and no desire for anything but a fun time. It took a blond pixie with a rocker style to turn his ways around and show me that he deserves a spot in my top three hot-rocker book boyfriends.
Trent and his band Three Ugly Guys have finally made it, they are headlining their own tour. The women, alcohol, and women come easily to them. To soften their image a bit, their record label suggest adding a female rocker to their tour. In steps Lexie, a rarity, a female who can rock with the best of them. Not only can she hold her own on stage opening for these wild guys, she fits right in with them off stage as well.
This story was filled with everything you would want from a rock star romance. The adrenaline of the performance, a bad boy who finds his perfect girl, and good friends.
I love how Ms. Shea set up the characters for the next books in the series and I can’t wait for Sean’s story which is up next.
